Gilbert Ray Campground at Tucson Mountain Park
This is an incredible campground that is in the heart of the wilderness, boasting outstanding mountain views and sunset vistas. There are likewise several great hiking trails within reach, including trails around Brown Mountain, Wasson Peak, and others at the neighboring Saguaro National Park. Note that this campground does not keep reservations but rather operates on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Willow Beach Campground & RV Park
Fancy water adventures? Like to camp far away from the sounds of the city and suburbs? Then check out the nearby Willow Beach Campground & RV Park along the Colorado River. Campsites here are well-spaced apart so that every camper gets a bit of breathing room to enjoy gorgeous views. But what’s really great about this location is the easy access to the Colorado River for fishing and boating enthusiasts. For those without their own watercraft, the onsite Willow Beach Marina offers plenty of rental options. Additionally, Hoover Dam is just a 30-minute drive north of the campsite and offers its own sightseeing opportunities.
Chavez Crossing Group Campground
This tent and RV campground is located in the shadow of Red Rock State Park and has something to offer every type of camper. There’s the beauty of the Red Rock to explore, but there’s also plenty of modern amenities for those campers not looking for a boondocking experience. From your RV campsite, tennis courts and a golf course are just a short walk away. Also within a stroll is the Oak Creek and several hiking and biking trails.
Mather Campground at Grand Canyon National Park.
No trip to Arizona is complete without a visit to the Grand Canyon — at least once! There are a couple camping options available near the park’s opening but Mather Campground Shows and Laundry is the only one located within walking distances of both the Bright Angel and South Rim trailheads. Additionally, this campground is next to the South Rim Kennel, which is the only pet boarding facility in the area and very helpful as pets are not allowed on any inner canyon trails.
